[So the announcements were all sent out: it was time to discuss war plans and the plans are getting moved up. A location in Mianeh was secured, thanks to French contacts; they have a conference room in a hotel and the Saftan embassy sent over a few guards to keep an eye on things and one of the Earth ones swept it for bugs.]

[Lera is standing at the front of the room. She isn't obviously the Mazda; she has regular Saftan civilian clothing on to give her a surprise. The exception, of course, are those sharp golden eyes.]

[There are also some chocolate chip cookies, soft drinks on ice, and shrimp with cocktail sauce. She's waiting for everyone to arrive -- and is here early, like she always is -- before they start the spiel. Besides, they all need to get to know each other first. Of course, Ezra and Gabe probably came with her.]

I was a geographic information systems specialist. So I tried to sell a bunch of high schoolers on studying top soils for a living.

You know, I should have. [She shakes her head.] It was sorta lost on them. It didn't impress the Khshathra--uh, she wasn't the Khshathra then, though.

[Maybe it would, now, but Harriet got a much better career path.]

I'm of the impression she was at least previously difficult to impress. It took her quite a while to believe aspects of Zenderael were appearing on Earth. But she seems like an all right person. She sent me cappuccinos. That was cute.

Yeah. She's nice. She was going to use her abilities to make me what we were tentatively referring to as "god-beer."

It was during a brief lull in the crazy. It got pushed aside after things got crazy. [pause] You want in on this if there's ever time for it again?

I'm reaching a point in my life where I don't think I'll ever turn down something that involves alcohol.

[ a beat. fuck, that makes her sound like an alcoholic. well, she isn't one. not yet, anyway. ]

But maybe after I contact her myself.

[ why does everyone know each other, damnit. at this rate even fuckin heimdall or pretty boy mal is going to eat some god-organ. with her luck, it'd be one that she'd have to interact with.

... man, no one REALLY has to interact with the hunters, though. she can take solace in that. ]

How are the New York shops here? Have they run out of stuff yet?

I'd say I know what you mean, but... Russian. [She grins sheepsihly.] I already didn't.

[Oh, good question.]

Yeah. There's some left, but it looked like Boone's Farm. You know, kool-aid mixed with fermented piss.

[She taps a finger against her chin, thoughtful.]

The French ones are a lot better. The curfew really slowed the consumption down--ah, we also had about four vineyards come over intact. I bought a couple bottles and I'm letting them age. I thought I should be able to tell people that I had the first French wines from Zenderael, some day.

[Her cellar is now awesome. Say what you will, but the Mazda draws a pretty sweet salary.]

Mazda's got some high priorities, huh. If we make it out of this alive, we ought to get smashed. Except for Rh- the Ahura. I don't think he drinks.
