[Majestica/Rayu] - I'll write you a song

Who:
Majestica (LeiLei)
Rayu (Rhys)
When: Friday, Feb 18
Where: Some low level area in Safta
Before/After: N/A
Warnings: Majestica is eeeeeeeeeeevil

In which Majestica gets hustled and LeiLei doesn't even notice.

Rayu missed Bastan, but he couldn't afford to linger there anymore. Zach had told him off, and if Rayu was seen with Ravi, the assassins might find a new target to play with. Zach was right. It was dangerous to be seen there. If anyone knew he was Victor... He slumped forward, banging his head on a tree, and drew his gun to shoot down the rogue, clockwork peacock beside him. What the hell did Anathema even need a 100 clockwork hearts for? This was all an elaborate plan to drive him mad with tedium. That was the only answer.

A familiar presence made the hair on his neck stick straight up. Rayu jerked up, whirling to look toward... Not Anathema. He quirked his brow at the mage wandering the area. It was similar, but... huh. Some member of her cult? He kept quiet, trying to keep himself hidden in stealth as he approached to investigate.

Majestica stood in the middle of a flock of clockwork peacocks, her hands raised in a casting pose. When she finished chanting the words to her spell, a storm of lightning surrounded her, frying all the peacocks in a ten foot radius.

That was her new favourite spell.

When the birds all ground to a halt and fell to the dirt, she walked among them to start picking out the clockwork feathers she'd come to collect. Not for any explicit purpose. They were just pretty.

Rayu furrowed his brow. Maybe he wasn't the only one on item collection. Maybe it was unrelated. Whichever the truth was, the smart choice would have been to back up, mind his own business, and pretend he never saw anything.

So naturally, he stepped forward and pushed up his hat to get a better look at the mage. "Hey," he said. "You takin' the hearts or jus' the feathers?"

"Just the feathers," she answered automatically, and then paused to look at him again and re-evaluate her answer. "Why?" she asked, suspiciously.

"Kinda lookin' for 'em myself." He gestured to one of the fallen hearts with a tilt of his head. "You mind if I help myself?"

She regarded him for a moment and then smiled, setting her foot on the nearest clockwork corpse. It wasn't a nice smile. "I do mind. My hard work isn't free."

[[Majestica whispered to Rayu Barozu, 'If you really need them though I don't mind :D Majestica's just not very nice lol']]

Fantastic. Rayu let out a sigh. "So what's your price?"

[[Rayu Barozu whispered to Majestica, "Nah, only for RP reasons. I doubt he's expected to physically have them."]]

[[Majestica whispered to Rayu Barozu, 'k then I won't feel bad about it XD']]

"Hmm." She tapped her chin with a finger, narrowing her eyes at him thoughtfully. Then she grinned, showing her fangs. Along with her red eyes, those were the clearest sign of her demon heritage. "One million gold."

The offer was beyond ridiculous, but Rayu didn't even hear it. He stared at the mage's combined features and shuddered, jaw clenched. He was a hunter now. Not a paladin. This wasn't his area. "Excuse me?"

"Yup." She folded her arms, still grinning. "I couldn't let these hearts go for aaaany less than one million gold."

Rayu folded his arms, staring. "...You're not real keen on economics, are you?"

"If you can't pay it, then give me a counter-offer," she challenged.

Rayu's head fell into a tilt as he tapped in chin. Slowly, his lips pulled into a cat-like grin. "A song."

"That's stupid, what kind of song is worth a million gold?"

Rayu's grin widened. "A song about a demon." He gestured to the mage with a flourish. "One as lovely as she is powerful and terrifying. A song sung in the taverns and inns across continents, so that everyone would know her name and learn to be afraid."

Her eyes lit up. "I am pretty terrifying," she admitted proudly. "If you could do all that, then I miiiight be willing to let you have these hearts."

Rayu tapped at his lute. "'Course I could do all that. 'S the kind of thing bards do." He slid his foot under a heart and kicked it up into the air, catching it in his hand. "So why don't you tell me about some of your accomplishments?"

She kicked the mechanical bird corpse away and started listing off her accomplishments, obviously pleased with herself. She ticked each one off on her fingers as she said it. "I've destroyed hundreds of cities, I burned a nest of dragons alive, I defeated an army of spellswords all by myself, and I beat the Ahura in a fight."

Rayu whistled sharply, kicking up another heart. "The Ahura! 'S what we call amazin' where I'm from. How'd that happen?"

"Oh, it was like 500 years ago, and he was way scarier back then. Eight feet tall, breathing fire. But of course," she laid a hand over her chest, smiling proudly, "he was no match for Majestica."

"Majestica?" Rayu repeated. Another heart. And another... "'S a fitting name. Ahura should have gone runnin' when he first heard it. Whelp. Live and learn, I s'pose. You run into the other guild leaders? Spenta? Vahishta?"

"I've met the Asha, of course." Because she was a mage. She had to have met him. "But I don't really care enough to go meet the others."

"Right, right, the Asha," he said. "Top of your class, I'm sure. None of the others, though? What, was the Ahura that borin' of a battle for Majestica?"

"I just didn't feel like it," she said with a shrug.

He scooped up the last of the clockwork hearts-- well, maybe missed one or two nearest Majestica, but Rayu was willing to cut his losses. "What do you feel like doin'? I mean, surely you've got your ambitions. Things you'll want people to know and go tremblin' in fear over."

"One day I'm going to rule the world," she declared.

Not much for elaboration, was she? He was backing up, trying to get at least one foot in the safety of shadows. Not as good as assassins who could hide in plain sight, but it helped him enough. "Well, that sounds fantastic," he said. "Majestica, Queen of Everythin'. Makes a nice song title."

"Yeah, it does." She grinned just thinking about it. "I'm looking forward to hearing it."

And then Rayu was gone. One step back and he vanished, not taking any extra time to linger as he continued to back away in stealth, watching Majestica until he felt safe enough to turn and escape in earnest.
